What is NATO50?
NATO50 is a 3D printed desktop aircraft radar that displays real-time aircraft around your chosen location. Inspired by classic military radar systems, it combines vintage styling with modern flight tracking technology to create a unique aviation display for your desk.
How does NATO50 work?
NATO50 receives live aircraft position data either from the built-in Airplanes.Live internet feed or from a compatible RTL-SDR receiver, displaying nearby aircraft in real time on the radar screen.
Is every NATO50 made by hand?
Yes. Every NATO50 begins as a series of precision 3D printed components before being carefully assembled, tested and quality checked by hand. Because each unit is individually produced rather than mass manufactured, please allow approximately one week for production before dispatch.
Is NATO50 a real radar?
No. NATO50 is a flight tracking display that uses ADS-B aircraft position data to recreate the look and experience of operating a traditional radar.
Is NATO50 plug and play?
Is NATO50 plug and play?
Does NATO50 require an internet connection?
Only if you’re using the built-in feed. When connected to a compatible RTL-SDR receiver, NATO50 can receive aircraft directly without relying on an internet-based flight data source.
Can I use my own ADS-B receiver?
Yes. NATO50 supports compatible RTL-SDR receivers, allowing you to receive aircraft directly using your own antenna.
Which aircraft can NATO50 display?
NATO50 can display commercial airliners, helicopters, light aircraft, military jets and military transport aircraft, depending on the available ADS-B data.
Can I track military aircraft?
Yes. Military aircraft that broadcast ADS-B data can be displayed. Some military flights disable or restrict ADS-B transmissions and therefore won’t appear.
How far can NATO50 track aircraft?
NATO50 offers selectable radar ranges from 5 km (or miles) up to 100 km (or miles), allowing you to focus on local traffic or monitor a much wider area.
Can I track a specific aircraft?
Yes. In Scan Mode, rotate the bearing dial to position the radar, then press the dial to lock onto an aircraft and automatically follow its movement.
Can I customise what appears on the radar?
Yes. Filter aircraft categories, airfield types, display styles and distance units to create a radar experience that’s tailored to your interests.
Is NATO50 difficult to set up?
No. NATO50 includes a simple guided setup that walks you through Wi-Fi, radar source, location and display preferences. Most users are up and running in just a few minutes.
Does NATO50 receive software updates?
Yes. NATO50 supports software updates, allowing new features, improvements and enhancements to be installed as they become available.
